Brighton Marathon

Brighton Marathon

We were incredibly excited to be one of the twelve official charities of Brighton Marathon 2011. Well done to all our runners in the Brighton Marathon 2011, thank you for your support.

Phone, email, text or visit Brighton, Hove & District Samaritans any day of the year and we will offer confidential, non-judgmental, emotional support. Keeping our service going in Brighton, Hove and District costs our local branch roughly £123 a day, covering our essential administration costs and the promotion of our work in the local community.

The marathon is one of our main fundraising events every year, helping us to continue this vital work and communicate about what we do. We’d like as many people as possible to be part of it.

Run for Brighton Hove and District Samaritans in Brighton Marathon 2012

Our runners will still benefit from personal support and contact from our volunteer team and supporters and we’ll do all we can to reward your efforts on our behalf.

Our runners benefit from

  • team support throughout, including training plans and networking with other runners
  • post-race reception including massage, relaxation and the chance to celebrate with friends and family
  • organised cheer-points and day long reception for your own supporters to take part
  • your own Samaritan running vest
  • fundraising and sponsorship support
  • official charity hospitality in the Start and Finish Areas
  • the cheers of Samaritans supporting you around the course!

Above all, running for Samaritans you know you are making a great contribution to the work of a charity that is there 24/7 to support those who are in despair or distress, including those who are suicidal – all provided by the voluntary efforts of other members of our community. We had 34,000 phone calls to our branch in Hove in 2009 alone; choosing to run in our marathon team helps us to be there for all that need us.

‘Charity Place’ runners

We will have a number of charity places in the 2012 Marathon .  These places will go quickly, so to find out more or register your interest, drop us a line at marathon@brightonsamaritans.org or ring our administration line on 01273 738115 and leave us a message.  We will send you all the necessary information and application form.  We ask  a commitment to raise a minimum of £500 for us through sponsorship or other donations.

‘Own place’ runners

If you’ve secured your own place in the Brighton Marathon 2012 and would like to run as part of our team then we’d love to hear from you. Half of our 2011 team were ‘own place’ runners and were as grateful for our support as we were for theirs. We’ll offer you all of the benefits above, and you’re free to set your own fundraising target. Part of making this a great day for our charity is having as many runners in Samaritans colours as possible, and creating a brilliant team vibe amongst our team and supporters. You can choose to receive more information when you buy your marathon place, or just drop us a line at marathon@brightonsamaritans.org. For more on what we do, download our Annual Report 2010 -11.

Brighton Marathon  2010

Our Samaritans team in the first ever Brighton Marathon on Sunday 18th April 2010 put in a tremendous effort to support the branch. Our team of 12 runners, supported by volunteers at cheerpoints around the course and at our post-event reception, trained for months to take on this exciting event for us and we’re enormously grateful for their efforts. Our runners couldn’t have been more positive about the support we offered them on the day and the experience of running as part of our team. And as a branch we had a great day too! More photos of the day and reflections from our team members coming soon. Many thanks to all of them for undertaking this challenge on our behalf and the funds they raised for us.
