GENERAL INFORMATION RELATING TO THE POST OF  
PART-TIME ASSISTANT MANAGER (CHARITY SHOP)

Appointment

This is a permanent position.  If an offer of employment is made, it will be subject to:
References received to the satisfaction of Samaritans
Successful completion of a probationary period

Wage

£7.00 per hour.

Payment is made monthly in arrears by bank transfer direct into your account.

Hours of Work

You will normally work 23 hours per week, three days out of seven, including Saturdays as agreed, the days worked being flexible by agreement. For days working concurrently with the shop manager the hours are 9.30 am to 5.30 pm with a half hour lunch break (7.5 hours) and for days when not working concurrently with the Shop Manager the hours are 9 am to 5.30 pm with a half hour lunch break (8 hours). In addition you will provide holiday/sickness cover for the Shop Manager.

Holiday Entitlement

As a part-time worker your holiday entitlement is 17 days paid leave, including public holidays, per year. You may occasionally be required to work public holidays with time off in lieu. The annual leave year runs from 1 January to 31 December.  The amount of holiday that can be carried forward to the next holiday year is limited to 2.5 days.
Dates for annual leave must be agreed in advance giving as much notice as possible.

Notice

All appointments are subject to satisfactory completion of an agreed probationary period.  During this period the post will be subject to one week’s notice on either side.
A minimum of 4 weeks’ notice in writing on either side will apply after the probationary period has been confirmed.

Retirement

Samaritans has a normal retirement age of 65.  However, consideration is given to requests by employees to continue working beyond this age.

Health & Safety

All employees are expected to observe the Health and Safety at Work Regulations as they apply to the Samaritans in accordance with statutory requirements.

Contract

All offers of employment are subject to a requirement to sign the Samaritans contract of employment.
